The California Partnership’s Rural Economic Empowerment Project (REEP) was patterned after a successful Bay Area Economic Empowerment Project. The Partnership launched this initiative in 2011 with support from The Allstate Foundation. The project is comprised of five mini-grant awards to programs that work to enhance the economic empowerment services they offer to survivors of domestic violence from rural communities.
Participating Programs:
Catalyst Domestic Violence Services - provided the Allstate curriculum to residents in their shelter and leveraged partnerships with key financial institutions in the community to provide additional services to the survivors they serve.
Lake Family Resource Center - provided weekly financial literacy workshops to clients living in four communities in Lake County; provided child care and transportation services to the women who are working toward financial independence.
Operation Care - partnered with local community financial institutions, employment organizations and workforce development agencies to provide survivors with an increased understanding of financial topics that are covered in the Allstate curriculum. They also provided incentives to keep survivors focused and motivated as they work toward improving their financial well-being.
Rural Human Services (RHS) - leveraged their partnership with the Del Norte Workforce Center to provide employment and career services to survivors. This partnership also allowed RHS staff to be trained and certified as Career Transition Coaches, thus making RHS as "mini-one stop career center" for survivors.
The Center for Violence-Free Relationships (The Center) - provided survivors with one-on-one financial literacy training and used social media networking and other technology to make curriculum more accessible to survivors in the community; provided childcare, transportation and other financial support to survivors as they worked on achieving financial independence.
